This article is dedicated to the original game mechanics of gaining and distributing experience between group members.
NCSoft's Korean developers conceived and implemented this mechanic. You may have encountered it on the official and PTS servers, where it functions identically to how it works on the E-Global Masterwork project servers.
In Masterwork Season 5 2024, we reworked the group experience bonus.
When killing monsters in a group, characters receive bonus EXP, SP and Vitality points:
Players in the group | High Five / MW season 1-4 | MW season 5 / MW Eternal |
---|---|---|
2 | 110% | 110% |
3 | 120% | 125% |
4 | 130% | 140% |
5 | 140% | 150% |
6 | 150% | 180% |
7 | 200% | 210% |
8 | 210% | 240% |
9 | 220% | 270% |
For example, let's take the base experience for killing a monster equal to 1000. The experience gained will shared among all members of the group.
Players in the group | Old modifier | New modifier | Difference |
---|---|---|---|
2 | 1100 | 1100 | 0 |
3 | 1200 | 1250 | +50 |
4 | 1300 | 1400 | +100 |
5 | 1400 | 1500 | +100 |
6 | 1500 | 1800 | +300 |
7 | 2000 | 2100 | +100 |
8 | 2100 | 2400 | +300 |
9 | 2200 | 2700 | +500 |
Experience gained by a player in a party compared to killing a monster solo:
For example, let's take the base experience for killing a monster equal to 1000
Players in the group | Old modifier | New modifier |
---|---|---|
1 | 1000 EXP | 1000 EXP |
2 | 550 EXP | 550 EXP |
3 | 400 EXP | 416,67 EXP |
4 | 325 EXP | 350 EXP |
5 | 280 EXP | 300 EXP |
6 | 250 EXP | 300 EXP |
7 | 285,71 EXP | 300 EXP |
8 | 262,5 EXP | 300 EXP |
9 | 244,4 EXP | 300 EXP |
So you can see that you will get the same experience in a group of 5 to 9 players. Considering that more players kill monsters faster — a large group is the most effective way to level up.
If characters of different levels are in the same group with a difference of 20 levels or more, the younger character will not receive experience.
If a group kills monsters that are 18 or more levels higher than the youngest character, he will not gain experience.
Experience for each group member is calculated depending on the character's level using the formula:
exp_monster / (lvl_char1² +...+ lvl_charN²) * lvl_player² * lvl_diff_penalty * rate_exp * party_rate
Increased experience from personal enhancements (Energy, Rune of Experience, achievement buff) and penalty for level difference between character and monster applies to the resulting experience.
As an example, let's calculate the experience for members of a group of two characters without bonuses:
Character 1 will receive: 48 980/(66*66 + 74*74) * 66*66 * 1 * 1.1 ≈ 23,862 exp, with the penalty ≈ 11,931 exp
Character 2 will receive: 48 980/(66*66 + 74*74) * 74*74 * 1 * 1.1 ≈ 29 997 exp
Based on the calculations, achieving optimal levelling conditions requires assembling a group of characters of the same level and defeating monsters without incurring a level difference penalty.
Premium and VIP do not affect experience rates but retain the Energy level.
